Fertőszéplak

Fertőszéplak ( German: Schlippach am See) is a town in Győr- Moson -Sopron inUngarn.

By Fertőszéplak leads the international Neusiedl Bike Trail. More Hungarian towns on this route are Fertőd, Hegykö, Fertőhomok, Hidegség, Fertőboz, Balf and Fertőrákos.

The significant Hungarian noble family of the Széchenyi is originally from Fertőszéplak before it moved its headquarters to Nagycenk in the 18th century.

Buildings

  • All Saints: Count György Széchenyi was build in 1726 the baroque church. Next to the church there is a small baroque Calvary.
  • Széchenyi Castle: Opposite the church is the old headquarters of the Széchenyi family.
  • Ethnographic Open-Air Museum: In the Széplaki road are some examples of Hungarian peasant Baroque. In five of these beautifully restored houses with arcades today houses the Ethnographic Open-Air Museum. The exhibition shows the history, life and work as well as folk art of living here along the Lake Neusiedl people. In the houses, the development of home decor from 1850 to 1950 and the old craft skills, such as basket-making from reeds from the nearby lake, weaving and Inland Fisheries, vividly. In the partly traditional with thatched outbuildings equipment and examples of the increasing mechanization of rural life are on display.
