Giant fennel ( Ferula communis)

The Plug herbs ( Ferula is popular etymology from Latin: " beat " ferire = derived, because it is guaranteed that the light, dry stick was used to hitting, but the true origin of the name is not known ) also called rods herbs and giant fennel, are a genus of plants belonging to the carrot family ( Apiaceae ).

Description

Put herbs are perennial herbaceous plants, it can be found both hapaxanthe species that bloom only once in their lives, as well pollakanthe species that carry annual flowers. Some species reach heights of growth of up to four meters. Striking is the garlic -like odor of most species.

All species of the genus have taproots, most of which are lignified. The stem is branched and often wrapped at the base with old fibers. The leaves sit on petioles and are surrounded at the base. They are wide and two to four times pinnately incised or two to four times.

The flowers are single or bisexual, usually without bracts. Bracteoles occur in some species, but absent in others. The petals are yellow or pale yellow (rarely greenish -yellow), and oval to lance-shaped with a sharpened tip. The stylus is conical, sometimes expanded or lobed towards the base.

After flowering is two-piece fruit decay form ( Doppelachänen ) elliptical in shape, in which the lateral ribs winged. The seeds are flattened or slightly concave.

Dissemination

Put herbs can be found in North Africa, Central and Southwest Asia and the Mediterranean. 26 species are found in the People's Republic of China, of which seven are endemic.
