Festival of Lights (Berlin)
The Festival of Lights (German Festival of Lights) is an event in Berlin, in which are set annually in October for a week or two famous sights of Berlin by illuminations, fireworks, light projections and other artistic events in an elaborate way once. Are illuminated buildings, streets and squares, such as the Brandenburg Gate, the TV tower, Berlin Cathedral or the Victory Column. The first event took place in 2004.
Initiators and organizers of the festival until 2009, the Berlin City Foundation, Union Investment Real Estate AG, the lighting designer Andreas Boehlke and the festival organizer Birgit Zander with her agency Zander & Partner Event-Marketing. Since 2010 Birgit Zander with her agency Zander & Partner Event-Marketing the sole organizer of the festival.
2008 Light Festival was opened on 14 October with the fountains of light -show " Flames of Water" in front of the Humboldt University in Berlin -Mitte. The light artist had 49 landmarks and places in Berlin illuminated or recorded with striking projections. The spiers of St. Nicholas Church in the city center were first illuminated white, which was reminiscent of the legend of the flight of Elector Johann Sigismund in front of a white woman from his castle in the Nikolai Quarter in the 17th century. A light clock on the Marx- Engels-Forum with a diameter of 60 meters was the largest in the world entrance into the Guinness Book of World Records. For runners there was a " Light Run " on a 7.5 -kilometer stretch along many of the illuminated buildings. Museums, theaters, embassies and traditional firms organized in a "Night of open doors " actions on lighting effects.
