fetchmail

Fetchmail is a free console program. It retrieves mail from POP, IMAP, ETRN, or ODMR - capable mail servers and forwards it to (E) SMTP or LMTP -capable mail server or a local delivery agent. It was formerly often criticized because of its design and the vulnerabilities, although it is widely used on Unix -like systems and comes with some distributions.

Became famous for the program and the fact that it is mentioned by its author Eric Steven Raymond interim as a case study in the well -known essay on the topic of open source, The Cathedral and the Bazaar.
