Fête des Vignerons

The Fête des Vignerons ( dt: Feast of the winery ) is a Swiss Wine Festival, which takes place about every 25 years in Vevey in the canton of Vaud.

History

The Fête des Vignerons is organized by the local wine brotherhood called Confrérie des vignerons. This was originally an association of landowners who controlled their own Rebarbeiter, the civic community and the Bernese authorities. Probably the Brotherhood was founded in the Middle Ages under the name of Abbaye de l'agriculture de Vevey or Abbaye de Saint -Urbain. However, Occupied records exist only since 1647.

At that time, only a simple procession in the form of a move has been performed annually in Vevey. On the tips of rods wooden figures were worn (so-called marmousets ) and from 1730 also represented the figure of a little boy who Bacchus and from 1747 a young person who Ceres, the goddess of the harvest represented.

As of 1741, the move every three years and 1783 was only conducted every six years. Under the influence of the Economic Society of Bern, the organizing committee to honor the best Rebarbeiter at a ceremony and decided to reward. Thus, it was a wine festival in 1797 for the simple relocation.

Since then, may consist of a tribune, whose access is not free, the population participate in the ceremony. The festival was organized according to the four seasons and from 1819 was the thematic dance that belongs to such a feast, complete. For each fixed the representation of the field work, the grazing cattle, work in the vineyard, the worship of the fatherland, as well as figures from the Greek, Latin and Christian mythology belongs. Since then celebrated each new generation of their hard Rebarbeiter the best from the Lavaux ( area between Pully and Bex ), the main objective was the memory and identity.
