Fiddletown AVA

Fiddletown AVA ( recognized since 4 October 1983) is an American Viticultural Area in the U.S. state of California. The area is located in the administrative area of ​​Amador County, about 60 miles southeast of downtown Sacramento. Vines were planted at the time of the California gold rush to the early 1850s. The vast majority of land under vines lie in the south and west of the production area. The vineyards lie at an altitude from 450 to 750 meters above the sea. Almost 20 % of the wine produced in Amador County comes from the Fiddletown AVA.

Climate

As the area is located approximately 160 kilometers from the coast of the Pacific, it is often very hot in midsummer. The low humidity and the wind, the cool air of the San Francisco Bay zoom into the night, stay, however, make bearable and a viticulture possible at this altitude. There is a Mediterranean climate with mild, wet winters and warm dry mostly summer.
