FIFI Wild Cup

The FIFI Wild Cup, also referred to as "alternative World Cup," was a football tournament before the Football World Cup 2006 in Germany. He found from May 29 to June 3, 2006 in Hamburg.

Background

In this short tournament started teams that are not recognized by FIFA as members and thus unable to attend qualifying for the FIFA World Cup. Some of these teams are organized in the Nouvelle Fédération - Board, some of these teams strive officially the admission to FIFA on. However, the NF- Board organized in November 2006 with the Viva World Cup own tournament.

The " Wild Cup " has its own mascot ( Schäfer & Schmitz ). Patron of the event was the German host Elton. The Wild Cup was opened on 29 May 2006 and ended on June 3, 2006.

The medial aspect of the tournament as a fun event and commerce gave rise to criticism as this, the sporting character of the tournament could be questioned. This was associated with the assumption that it is actually less about the concerns of the participating teams as the interests of the sponsors, such as the television channel DSF, Sport 1 today, would. Nevertheless, the event had to be made only once on a financially secure foundation so that you could enable participation at all the teams. So a large part of the expenditure of the teams were taken over by sponsorship.

The response of the participating teams was positive. Just isolated teams such as Tibet could seize the opportunity to present himself for the first time in a tournament.

In 2006 teams participated from Zanzibar ( trained by TV comedian Oliver Pocher ), North Cyprus, Gibraltar, Greenland and Tibet. Host team was the " Republic of St. Pauli ", a team of former professionals. The event took place at the stadium of FC St. Pauli, the Stadium on Millerntorplatz instead. Organizers of the tournament were the Essenes agencies Carat Sponsorship GmbH and Western Star GmbH.
