FightAIDS@Home

Fight AIDS @ Home is a World Community Grid project for distributed computing. The aim of the project is to discover new drugs for the treatment of HIV-infected. The project is supported by IBM worldwide. In Germany, the University of Heilbronn is a partner in the project. A private German information page is available since 21 December 2005.

To participate must by registering on the website of the World Community Grid, a small program (called "Grid Client" ) can be installed, which is available for Windows and now also for Linux and Mac under the BOINC software. This program covers from the website then a task package.

In Fight AIDS @ Home is this task package from simulations that are designed to test which drug is most appropriate, " dock " to the HI- virus. The drugs which are likely most likely after completion of the simulations are re-examined in clinical trials for their suitability. By the previous simulation using the " distributed computing ", the expensive clinical tests are used as effectively as possible.

The results of the calculations are to be made in the public domain of research.
