Filadelfia

Filadelfia is the capital of the northwestern departments Boqueron Paraguay. The name comes from the Greek (Philadelphia ), meaning brotherly love. The city is also the center of Fernheim, one of the largest Mennonite settlements in Paraguay, and is located in the Gran Chaco, a savanna landscape, occupying the entire western Paraguay and continuing moves to the south in Argentina and north into Bolivia. The population is 7,062 (as of August 28, 2002 ), of which about 2,500 German Mennonites Mennonites and Russia, whose native language is Plautdietsch. The majority of the population but consists of indigenous tribal groups.

History

Filadelfia was founded in 1930 and was close to the front in the Chaco War, but was barely involved in the fighting. During the Second World War, there were conflicts, as a part of the German -born settlers dreamed of a return to Germany and therefore supported the home to the Empire policy of the National Socialists. 1955 Philadelfia was renamed in Filadelfia, so that the Paraguayan Spanish-speaking residents pronounce the name correctly.

In 1961 the Transchaco Highway Filadelfia, 1989, the entire route of 450 km was paved up Asunción.

2005 Filadelfia celebrated its 75th anniversary.

School Benjamin H. Unruh ( Primaria )

This school was founded in 1950. It was named after Benjamin H. Unruh, who helped the Mennonites from Russia with the flight to Paraguay and Canada. The school was moved to another location in 2009, but still carries the same name. Here students are taught from the first to sixth grade.

School Johann Cornies ( Primaria )

This school was named after a Mennonite name Johann Cornies. Here are also students from first to sixth grade.

Colegio Filadelfia (secondary Daria )

The first Central School was built in Schönwiese. In 1936 the Central School was moved to Filadelfia, where it is still today. In this Colegio students are taught from the seventh through twelfth grade. The main building, known as the Secretariat of the Colegio Filadelfia was built in 1984. It also includes the staff room, principal, computer room and library. The classrooms and the gymnasium, auditorium and music rooms are located in other buildings. On the school grounds there is also a boarding school, where girls and boys live from the surrounding villages.
