Finckenstein Palace

The Finckenstein Castle (Polish Kamieniec ), was a former county in Poland in Rosenberg in West Prussia, about seven kilometers northeast of Rosenberg (Polish Susz ) located baroque palace, ruins since 1945.

In the years 1716-1720 the castle on behalf of Albrecht Konrad Finck von Finckenstein was probably designed by Jean de Bodt and built under the leadership of John von Collas. It remained until 1782 owned by the Finck von Finckenstein family. Then it was purchased by the Viscount Dohna - Schlobitten and held until early 1945. In the course of the Second World War it was set on 22 January 1945 by the Red Army on fire. The ruins are preserved to some extent today.

The castle was mostly known residence of Napoleon Bonaparte, who until June 1807 used it as his headquarters during the Fourth Coalition War from April. When he saw the castle for the first time, Napoleon uttered this saying: " Enfin un château ". At this location, the Treaty of Finckenstein between France and Persia was signed. Napoleon spent his time at Castle Finckenstein with the Polish countess Maria Walewska. The 1937 turned Hollywood movie Maria Walewska ( Original title: Conquest ) with Greta Garbo and Charles Boyer, whose scenes are recreated in part Castle Finckenstein is about this together.
