Finike

Finike (Greek in ancient times Φοινιξ, Φοινικος, Phoinix, Phoenicus ) is a city in Turkey's Antalya Province. It is the capital of the district of the same name, 110 km south-west of Antalya and 14 km west of the neighboring town Kumluca at the western end of the bay of Finike ( Finike Körfezi ). The city has a harbor and a large marina.

History

Finike was founded in the 5th century BC by the Phoenicians under the name Phoenicus as a commercial city, to supply the city with nearby Limyra with agricultural property. 655 AD, the battle took place outside the city, in the Eastern Roman or Byzantine fleet defeated the invading Arabs.

Economy

The city lives to a great extent on tourism. Along the 20 km long beach that extends to behind Mavikent in Kumluca, stand on the main street of Kumluca to Finike on 10 km numerous hotels and motels, mainly in Hasyurt. They are separated by the D 400 from the beach. In Finike is market day on Saturdays in downtown.

Culture and sights

Every year, from first to third in July a known beyond the city limits beyond the summer festival, present their works at the craftsman.

A park in the middle of the city, white-painted houses on the mountainside and the bays to the west are some of the sights. There is up into the mountains building boom.

In the near Finike is found at the D 400 towards Kaş the İncirli Mağarası ( İncirli cave ). Even the ancient cities Limyra and Arykanda are not far away. The Lycian distance footpath passes through Finike.

Traffic

The road D 400 performs Finike. This road is widened to four lanes in Kumluca. The previously very narrow two-lane roadway in the direction of Demre has been widened.

From Finike about Kumluca - Kemer Antalya to operate many small buses in regular service. During the day, coming runs a bus every hour from Antalya to Demre - Kaş and to 16.30 every hour to Fethiye.
