Fiona Graham

Sayuki (Japanese纱 幸; * in Melbourne as Fiona Graham) is an Australian anthropologist and Geisha who works in Tokyo.

In December 2007, after a year of preparation and training ( which is the normal training time for Geisha in Tokyo is ), officially debuted as a geisha Sayuki in the Asakusa district in Tokyo. Sayuki is considered the first Western geisha in Japanese history. Sayuki took lessons in various arts, but her main art is yokobue (Japanese bamboo flute). Today she works independently and with geisha from all over Tokyo.

Academic career

Sayuki has a Ph.D. in Social Anthropology and an MBA, both from the University of Oxford. Your first diplomas in psychology and teaching she received at the Keio University in Tokyo. She has operated fieldwork in Japanese companies, Tokyo's nightlife with traditional Japanese sports teams and in the world of Japanese anime and popular culture. It was originally for geisha as part of an academic project, but plans to continue to pursue this profession for some time.

Other activities

Sayuki has also launched a number of initiatives that allow foreigners in Japan, easier to visit a Geisha Banquet, by booking through their website. It also attempts abroad the geisha culture to bring the people closer by traveling overseas and banquets acting in other countries.

In 2011 she opened a kimono shop.
