Fire temple

A Fire Temple ( Ataschkade, Persian آتشکده in Iran, Agiary in India. Both terms mean " fire house ") is the place of cult in Zoroastrianism.

A fire temples usually consists of a hall with several small rooms where the most sacred houses the sacred fire. Here accomplish priests and faithful rituals and sing songs. In Zoroastrianism fire is considered purifying power, and with the truth ( Asha: law, order ) were identified, and accordingly Amesha Spenta Asha associated with the Vahishta. There are three degrees of fire: Atash Dadgah, Atash Atash Behram and Adaran, the latter being the most sacred.

History

The first fire altars were perhaps built by the Achaemenids, but these are mostly ill-considered sanctuaries on artificial surveys. It was assumed that one could not close in a space the mind of God. Examples found at Pontus ( Herodotus ) and in Cappadocia ( as Strabo ).

Probably the oldest covered fire temple found in Kuh-e Khwaja from the Seleucid or frühparthischer time where the fire was probably housed in an inner sanctum. Especially from the Sassanian period are known as the Fire Temple Atur Gushnasp on the Takht - i-Suleiman. With the beginning of the Islamic conquest of Persia the fire temple were destroyed or converted into mosques. More recently, several fire temples were reconstructed.

The center of the Iranian Zoroastrianism is Yazd. In the mountains around there are several Zoroastrian pilgrimage sites ( Pir ). Pir -e Sabz ( Chak Chak ) is located about 70 kilometers from Yazd near the town of Ardakan.

The seven famous fire temples of antiquity

  • Azer More (Persian آذر مهر ) (instead of Azar also Atash ).
  • Azer Bahram (Persian آذر بهرام )
  • Azer Nusch (Persian آذر نوش ), Takht e Rostam ( Balch ) or Nusch Azar or Nau Bahar and Tachte i Soleiman in Tabriz
  • Azer Bahrin (Persian آذر برین )
  • Azer Aien (Persian آذر آیین )
  • Azer Chorin (Persian آذر خرداد ), Sun concerning Azar Khordad or Naqsch -e Rostam in Shiraz, rarely Tachte Rostam ( Rostam panel ), Naqsch means pattern
  • Azar Zurdusht (Persian آذر زردشت )

In the seven above-mentioned called fire temples act by deleted fireplaces. There are in Iran nor fire temple, the fires are not deleted, for example, in Yazd.
