It belongs to the district Amares in Braga District, has an area of 3.9 km ² and has 723 inhabitants (as at 30 June 2011).

The Grade II listed manor house and winery Casa da Tapada is located just outside the town Fiscal. It originated in the 16th century and has been expanded several times and rebuilt. So there are today Mannerist and Baroque style elements in the building and the ornate chapel. The parish church ( Igreja de Paroquial Fiscal ) is also a listed building.

The Portuguese pop musician António Variações (1944 - 1984) was born here. A bust was erected for him in the village, and named a street after him, in which, inter alia, the municipality resides.
