Amares is a small town ( Vila ) and a circle ( concelho ) in Portugal with 1551 inhabitants (as at 30 June 2011).

History

The town was founded in the time of the Roman occupation, and probably goes to a hill-fort ( Portuguese: Castro) returns the Lusitanians. The first official record comes from a document of the year 960

Amares got the Charter ( Foral ) in 1514 by King Manuel I.

Culture and sights

Most of the attractions of the circle are in the municipalities outside the county town, including the monastery Bouro in Santa Maria do Bouro, or the Spa of Caldelas. In the Sanctuary of Fátima Our Lady of Abadia, also in Santa Maria do Bouro, a museum is housed, is shown in the above all sacred art.
