Fishing village

A fishing village is a place whose economy has traditionally been dominated by the fishery, and consequently a higher than average share is to fishermen under its population.

Due to the industrialization of the fishing and the general structural change fishing in many traditional fishing villages, however, is no longer regarded as the main source of income. Especially in southern European holiday regions, it has now been widely replaced by tourism and is now often even completely disappeared. Because of its positive connotation of the term fishing village is still mostly retained and used for advertising and image building.

Fishery was operated on Gotland in the sideline. There is seasonal, operated year round fishing villages have received, some of which are under protection.

In Germany exist only in a few areas of real fishing villages (eg Ditzum ). However, the name of many places still has the former livelihood of its inhabitants towards (eg Fischerhude or fishing village near Deggendorf / Danube ).
