Fitness trail

A jogging path is a circular course in which approximately every 200 meters is a simple and robust gym bench. In Switzerland, similar routes under the name Vita Parcours are known in Austria, the term is widely used Forstmeile.

The paths created in the mid-20th century as part of the jogging movement.

Construction

At about three to four kilometer stretch there are about 15 to 20 exercise stations, such as bars for pull-ups or snags for capers - often together with a blackboard with exercise instructions.

Facility

Jogging paths have, besides the actual route also other simple exercise equipment. For example, horizontal bars of wood, or wooden posts in the ground, wooden poles, etc. The aim is to bring a few " foreign body" in the forest, but still many and not too strenuous training methods to offer.

Exercises include:

  • Slalom
  • Leapfrog
  • On and exuberance
  • Pull-up
  • Balance
  • Hüftkreisen
  • Stretching exercises
  • Long-jump

Management

Most are jogging paths as well as the Vita Parcours of the respective city or town, maintained and serviced by sports clubs or tourist offices.

After peaking in the late 1970s, the existing jogging paths in many communities have now been abandoned.
