Flag of Vendsyssel

The unofficial flag of Vendsyssel, which is also called Vendelbrog to represent as a regional symbol of the North Danish countryside and historical province ( SYSSEL ) Vendsyssel.

The Vendelbrog one next to the flag of Bornholm and the flag Ærø to the only flags in continental Denmark, the mark in this way regional autonomy.

Structure, colors and meaning

The flag is a Scandinavian cross flag, as they are found mainly in the Nordic countries. On a blue background, a green cross is on a yellow-orange cross. History

1976 decided the editors of the satirical Christmas font Bjæsken who had specialized in the local sense of humor, an autonomy flag for a "free Vendsyssel " to present the annual output design. The then mayor of the city Hjørring, Poul Poulsen, took up the idea to promote the landscape Vendsyssel and in particular the city Hjørring. For the name drawn by the artist Mogens Bohøj flag, whose colors are due to the initiator of the first Vendelbomarsches Carl Honebeck, Vendelbrog was chosen parallel to the Dannebrog. Thereupon the local businessmen handed over during a town festival as an output a large flag and a number of smaller flags used as street decorations.

2009 paid the North Jutland businessman René Gross Kærskov 6000 Danish kroner to shoot the flag of Vendsyssel with a rocket from New Mexico from 120 km into space.
