Flagtail catfish

Tail stripe torpedo catfish ( Dianema urostriatum )

The tail stripe torpedo catfish ( Dianema urostriatum ) comes from the waters of Brazil and reaches a length of up to 12 cm. The strikingly marked fish is characterized by a slender, elongated body and the black-and- white- striped along the tail fin.

The tail stripe torpedo catfish is well suited for keeping in aquariums, even in the community tank, as far as this is large enough to offer the fish despite its length swimming space. The peaceful schooling fish holds more than other catfish species that live primarily on the bottom of the water, even in the higher regions on water and swims preferably with the head against the current.

The male, which can be distinguished from females by the thicker breast -fin spine, builds on the water surface, a foam nest into which the female deposits the fertilized eggs. Nest and are guarded area at this time by the male.
