Flaminio Vacca

Flaminio Vacca or Vacchi (* 1538 in or near Rome, † 1605 in Rome ) was an Italian sculptor of Mannerism.

Life and work

About Flaminio Vaccas life only few reliable data are known. He was born near Rome in a Spanish -born family, worked as a young man in the workshop of the mannerist sculptor Vincenzo de ' Rossi, who was in Rome 1546-1560 and was first primarily with the restoration and with copies of Antiquities employed. Around 1572 he has been a member of the " Congregation dei Virtuosi al Pantheon ", the Pontifical Academy of Fine Arts in Rome, detected. His most productive period as a sculptor falls in the time of the pontificate of Gregory XIII. In his memoirs, he tells how it came to the name of the Roman church of San Benedetto della Ciambella.

The grave of Flaminio Vacca is located in the Pantheon in Rome.
