Flathead Indian Reservation

The Flathead Indian Reservation in western Montana is located between Kalispell and Missoula, just west of the North American Continental Divide. The reserve covers approximately 1.25 million acres ( 5058 km ²) and is home to the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes of the Flathead Nation, from the historical tribes of the Flathead ( Bitterroot Salish ), Kutenai, Pend d' Oreille and the Upper Spokane is. There are about 6,800 registered tribal members, another estimated 3,700 live in the vicinity of the reserve.

The Bitterroot Salish emigrated from the West, which is atypical for the tribes in Montana. The Kutenai, however, come from the state.
