Flatwoods is an American small town near Ashland ( Kentucky) in Greenup County. The population in 2010 was 10,983. Flatwoods is a part of the Huntington - Ashland Metropolitan Area ( MSA).

Flatwoods original place name was Advance. This was founded by the Methodists in 1860. Later the name was changed to Cheap, Cheap by John ( a blind Methodist minister). 1938 was the place its present name Flatwoods.

In the city of 6 radio stations are located or have (except the nationwide broadcasters ) their wider audience. These are WKEE, The Dawg, The Plannet, Big Buck Country, wTCR and WLGC, also the TV station WSAZ 3 The biggest tourist attraction in the city or in the countryside is the Greenbo Lake State Resort Park ( 25 minutes from Flatwoods ). The most famous son of the town is the country singer and actor Billy Ray Cyrus.
