Flavones
Flavones are yellow plant pigments that count as derivatives of flavone to the class of flavonoids. There are about 300 known naturally occurring flavones. Like other flavonoids are most flavones present as water-soluble glycosides, hyperoside and quercitrin eg, hesperidin, luteolin, chrysin. They occur frequently as a copigments of anthocyanins. The interaction of both types of dyes explains the simultaneous occurrence of yellow and red in different flowers.
The flavones are also regarded as derivatives of chromone.
