The Flemish Parliament (Dutch Vlaams Parlement? / I ) is the parliament of the Flemish Community and the Flemish Region of Belgium. The Parliament shall have its seat in Brussels.

The Flemish Parliament has 124 MPs. 118 of them are elected by the Flemish Region, the remaining six of the Brussels-Capital Region. The latter may only vote on matters that relate to the Flemish Community; regarding the issues of their region they work in the Council of the Brussels -Capital Region.

Flemish Community and Flemish Region (Flanders ), while the bodies of the rest of the communities and regions of Belgium have remained separated a common parliament and a common government. Since 1995, the deputies are elected directly, before they were the Flemish representatives from the Belgian Federal Parliament.

If Parliament joint tasks handled (based on the Dutch-speaking Flemish community ), then it comes to language issues in Flanders, culture, education and learning, social and partially healthcare.

Regional issues (related to the Flemish Region ) include, among other things, land use planning, housing, economic, energy, and community supervision. Flanders must also conclude international treaties, if they relate to the regional affairs.

In 2009 elected and until 2014 working Parliament there are seven fractions (in brackets number of seats):

  • Christians - Democratisch en Vlaams (31 ), Christian Democratic
  • Vlaams Belang ( 21), right-wing extremist - separatist
  • Open Vlaamse en liberals democrats (21 ), liberal
  • Socialist Party Other ( 19) social-democratic
  • Nieuw- Vlaamse Alliantie (16 ), national social - liberal
  • Lijst Dedecker (8 ), right cleavage of the Liberals
  • Groen! ( 7), green - alternative

There is also a seat for the French-speaking nationalist Union des Francophones, which can make for technical reasons no fraction.
