Fletcher Christian

Fletcher Christian ( born September 25, 1764 in Brigham, England; † September 20, 1793 in Adamstown, Pitcairn ) was a British sailor and 1789 leader of many literary and cinematic processed Mutiny on the Bounty.

He went to sea at age 18 and met William Bligh know on HMS Cambridge, who served as the sixth Lieutenant there. With Bligh Christian later made two more trips to the merchant ship Britannia.

On the " HMAV Bounty" Fletcher Christian was translatable age of 24 Masters Mate, as with Chief Petty Officer or failing wise 2nd officer.

On the way back from Tahiti Bligh Christian is said to have accused trespassed against a stock of coconuts. This seems to have given the final push to the famous mutiny on April 28, 1789. Christian is said to have initially considered to desert on a raft and return to Tahiti. Some crew members who had the same idea, have him probably persuaded to mutiny, which became the model of many films later.

Under the leadership of Christian they brought the ship under their control and forced Bligh along with 18 crew members remained loyal to board a barge. The mutineers returned to Tahiti first back and eventually settled on Pitcairn Island, which they reached on 15 January 1790. Christian lived there with his wife Maimiti, the daughter of a tribal chief from Tahiti, until he was murdered in 1793 probably.

Fletcher Christian is one of the progenitors of the Pitcairner.
