Flight information region

A flight information region, Eng. Flight information region ( FIR) is a defined airspace in which at least flight information and alerting service are offered. Each part of the atmosphere is associated with exactly one FIR. It is generally coextensive with the territory of the country, but may also include international ( through allocation by the International Civil Aviation Organization ICAO) waters. Similarly, the airspace can be shared across a territory in several FIRs.

In general, each FIR is assigned to at least one area control center (ACC Area control center). Your air traffic controllers perform the traffic control and information of the pilots and assign them to appropriate routes and altitudes for cruise as well as arrivals and departures. The " transfer " of the aircraft to the next FIR is governed by clear procedures.

The offered Flight Information Service (FIS = Flight Information Service ) is controlled as in uncontrolled airspace for flights under visual flight (VFR = Visual flight rules) as for instrument flight rules ( IFR instrument flight rules) available.
