Flight test

Flight testing is a sub-discipline of Aeronautics and Astronautics. Objectives of flight tests on the one hand the (further ) development of an aircraft or of individual systems or on the other hand the proof airworthiness against regulatory agencies. For flight testing the systems to be tested often are additionally instrumented. In addition to the systems flying flight tests usually require a corresponding infrastructure on the ground, such as ground station, test lead, specially prepared runways, etc. The procedures and conditions prescribed by the authorities. Depending on the nature of the experiments and corresponding test licensed pilots are required. Civilian and military flight tests differ in some respect goals, implementation and requirements.

Subject of the flight testing is often:

  • Testing of new aircraft or components
  • Proof of flight characteristics
  • Airworthiness certificate ( approved)
  • Measuring the adaptation of the simulation data
  • Investigation of incidents
  • Calibration of systems
