Florence is an American city in Arizona in Pinal County, whose county seat ( county seat ) it is. It has about 15,500 inhabitants ( 2004) on an area of 21.5 km ². The city is located on the Arizona State Routes 79 and 287 as attraction applies the courthouse from 1891, the oldest operating public buildings in Arizona. Due to austerity measures had to be dispensed to the intended clock in the tower at the time. Instead, a clock was painted, indicating permanent clock 11:44. The building is listed alongside a number of other local buildings on the National Register of Historic Places of the United States. During the Second World War was far from the city a large prison camp, Camp Florence. In the 1942/1943 set up camp over 13,000 prisoners of war were held in Germany and Italy temporarily.

In Florence is also the largest prison in the state of Arizona, which opened in 1908 and today has a capacity of almost 4,000 prisoners.
