Floriade (Canberra)

The Floriade is a flower and entertainment festival that takes place annually in the Commonwealth Park in Canberra. Shown are lush floral arrangements, sculptures and other works of art. The Floriade pulls in the spring from mid- September to mid-October, tourists from all over Australia and overseas to. The festival is the most important regular tourist event in the Australian Capital Territory.

Was first carried out the Floriade in 1988, in connection with the 75th anniversary celebration of the city's founding and the 200th anniversary of European settlement of Australia. The event proved a great success and is since then every year a different theme instead. With around 300,000 visitors each Floriade is the largest garden show in the Southern Hemisphere.

Devote particular attention to the organizer at art exhibitions. Every year new works of art are commissioned, which are distributed over the whole area and remain in some cases beyond the exhibition there permanently. Especially popular is the design competition for garden gnomes. Make schools, retirement homes and businesses these according to a given topic.
