Floris Cohen

Hendrik Floris Cohen ( born July 1, 1946 in Haarlem, Netherlands) is a Dutch historian of science, which deals particularly with the history of science.

Life

Cohen studied at the University of Leiden from 1970 story in Social Economics and a minor in history of science. In 1974 he received his doctorate with the thesis Om het verneuwing van het Socialisme. De Politieke oriëntatie van de Nederlandse sociaal - democratie 1919 - 1930 (On the renewal of socialism, the political orientation of the Dutch Social Democracy 1919 - 1930. ), About the efforts of the Dutch social democracy for renewal in the first decade after the First World War.

Cohen was employed from 1975 to 1982 as a research associate ( curator) at the Museum Boerhaave in Leiden. From 1982 to 2001 he was professor of history of science at the University of Twente.

Regularly appeared in the years 1984 to 1991 Cohen's contributions to science and universities in the Dutch newspaper Trouw. Utrecht University appointed him professor of comparative history of science.

Floris Cohen is the older brother of the reigning until 2010 Mayor of Amsterdam Job Cohen and son of the historian Dolf Cohen.
