Flow injection analysis

The flow injection analysis (FIA ) is an automated method in analytical chemistry for the routine determination of analyte concentrations. It is used for control and routine analysis in laboratories in the clinical area and in environmental and pharmaceutical applications and has the advantage of low cost and versatile application possibilities.

Operation

By injection of the sample in a continuous carrier stream for dispersion of the analyte occurs. The resulting concentration profile can be recorded by means of suitable detectors. By comparing with a previously recorded calibration curve to draw conclusions on the concentration of the analyte can be drawn. An appropriate device is a FIAS [dt. Flow Injection Analysis System].

Detectors

It can convert almost all detectors are used in the analysis. These include photometric and electrochemical detectors.
