Fluorescence Loss in Photobleaching

As Fluorescence loss in photobleaching (FLIP ) refers to a method of microbiology for the detection of the fluidity of biomembranes.

Operation

In this case, the surface proteins are identified on cells with fluorescently - labeled antibodies, and the fluorescence activity photometrically in a defined area. Simultaneously, spatially separated, a continuous laser irradiation that destroys the fluorescence in the irradiated region (see photobleaching ). As a consequence, the fluorescence in the range decreases, which is explained by the movement of the surface proteins in the membrane ( fluid mosaic model).

On a similar principle, fluorescence recovery after photobleaching based ( FRAP ).
