Fondettes

Fondettes is a French town with 10,306 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) in the Indre- et- Loire in the Centre region. It belongs to the community association Tours Plus.

Geography

Fondettes is located 6.9 km north-west of Tours. The municipal area covers 3183 hectares, the average height is 71 meters above sea level, the Mairie stands at a height of 91 meters. The Loire and the Choisille, a tributary of the Loire, flowing through the municipality.

History

The oldest traces of human settlement date back to the Gallo -Roman period (52 BC to 486 AD).

Twinning

Fondettes has since 1975 been twinned with the German community Naurod (since 1977 to Wiesbaden belonging ) and with the Portuguese city Constância.

Culture and sights

Fondettes nationally represented with a flower in the Conseil des villes et villages fleuris ( National Council of flowery towns and villages ). The " flowers " are awarded as part of a regional competition, a maximum of three flowers can be achieved.

Structures

The Chatigny castle was built in 1487. To the west of the courtyard, however, are remnants of a Gallo - Roman villa from the 3rd century, which were discovered in 1890 during excavations. The castle was registered in 2006 in the Additional List of Monuments historiques.

The church of Saint -Symphorien was built on the foundations of an older church from the 12th century. The aisles were built in the 13th century. The nave was completed in 1500. The sacristy dates from the 18th century. In 1863, the church was restored. In 1995, she was entered in the Register of Monuments historiques addition.
