Fongafale

Fongafale is the largest and with 3136 inhabitants ( 2002 census ), most populous island of the atoll Funafuti and the state of Tuvalu.
The only ( international ) airport in the country is located in Fongafale. There are seven small lakes, of which the Pond is the largest. Fongafale has four villages that merge ( population in brackets):

- Vaiaku ( 516)
Vaiaku is the most important village in which there are also all government buildings.
