Fontanelle cemetery

Fontanelle Cemetery (Cimitero delle Fontanelle ) is located in the Italian city of Naples.

Fontanelle Cemetery is one of the most famous in the city. It is located in a cave system that was first used in 1656 as a burial site, as every day 1,500 people at the " Great Plague " died and the cemeteries were already hopelessly overcrowded. Previously, the caves had served as a quarry. Today you can see in enormous skeletons and skulls and crosses and other sacred objects. The cemetery is known for a mysterious atmosphere and was the site of a cult. Neapolitans searched from skeletons to pray for them as nameless.
