Batman, Robin and Wonder Woman visit the Fortress of Solitude to celebrate Superman's birthday. But there they find the man of steel mesmerized standing there while a strange -looking plant protruding from his chest. Since the intergalactic conqueror Mongul appears and tells them that he had Superman given this " gift" with a List.

Known as the Black Mercy plant puts Superman in the illusion, what would have happened to his home planet Krypton had not exploded. In this illusion Kal- El on Krypton leads a peaceful life and has a family. His father Jor -El, however, has many problems. Because of his mistake regarding the destruction of Krypton, he was expelled from the Council of Elders and there are demonstrations about it.

Mongul fights Meanwhile, in the Fortress of Solitude from Superman's friends, so they do not thwart his plans. As Batman and Wonder Woman are physically no match for him, Robin Superman attempts to free using special gloves from the plant. When it succeeds, the Steely is furious about Monguls fact. After a fierce battle Robin drops the plant on Mongul and thus take from this self- possession. Mongul now looks in his illusion, what great victories he could have received if he had beaten Superman at their first meeting.
