Forest Hills (MBTA-Station)

Forest Hills is the name of a metro station of the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority ( MBTA ) in the homonymous borough of the city of Boston, Massachusetts in the United States. It provides access to the Needham Line of the MBTA Commuter Rail, and is also the terminus of the Orange Line and the southern end of the South West Corridor.

History

Opened on May 4, 1987 Station Built in 1909, replaced the same station on Washington Street Elevated. The directly adjacent station Arborway was until 1985 the terminus of the Green Line E. This line was initially temporarily, permanently shortened to the present day, however, until the station Heath Street.

Track, signaling and safety systems

The station has six tracks, four of which two central platforms are made available. The remaining two tracks are pure passage tracks on which trains can run through the station without stopping. They are regularly used by Amtrak trains and Acela Express and Northeast Regional of the MBTA commuter trains of the Providence / Stoughton Line and the Franklin Line.

Building

The building is located at the intersection of Washington Street and Hyde Park Aveneue. It was designed by the architectural firm Cambridge Seven Associates and designed so that it has the typical appearance of a greenhouse, as they are in the surrounding park. The tower of the station has become a local landmark. The station is completely accessible.

As part of the Arts on the Line of the MBTA project the artwork " Transcendental Greens " by Dan George was installed in the station, which consists of nine multi-colored aluminum sculptures. Outside the building are beyond two installations ( " The Subway Collector " by Thomas Hurley and "Lies" by Ethan Canin ) granite showing various engraved texts.

Surroundings

The station is served by a total of 16 bus routes. There are also on the premises of the station 206 Park and ride parking. In the immediate vicinity of the station is home to the Arnold Arboretum, Franklin Park and Cemetery Forest Hills Cemetery.
