Formononetin is a chemical compound from the class of isoflavones. It is attributed to the phyto-oestrogens, as it is to a plant associated with estrogen-like biological activity. The substance does not have a steroidal structure, its effect is weak.

Occurrence

Formononetin occurs in particular in the upper plant parts of red clover (red clover ), and also in certain legume species.

It is usually in the glycosidic bond; 7- O- β -D-glucopyranoside of formononetin is the ononin.
