Forst (brewery)

The Forst brewery AG (Italian Birra Forst SpA ) is the largest brewery in South Tyrol. It is located in the Algunder fraction forest near Merano. To enable the delivery to Sicily, a bottling plant in Palermo is operated. With 700,000 hl annual production, the production is on the regional top spot. The company owns the mineral water distributors " Merano mineral water " and " Emperor of water " as well as eight Forsterbräus that are located in the main towns South Tyrol. Other forest - brewing restaurants are out in Trento and Trieste.

History

The Forst brewery was founded in 1857 by the then Town Clerk Franz Tappeiner Merano and the farmer Johann Wallnoefer. In 1863 the company was taken over by Josef Fuchs, who advanced the development of the brewery at its present location. Today, the company leads the Fuchs family in the fourth generation.

Products

The forestry beer is brewed according to the German Purity Law not because breweries in Italy are subject to Italian Food Act. This allows not only the use of other malted barley grains. So also MAIZE GRITZ is processed in the forestry beer.
