Fort Drum

Fort Drum is a military base the U.S. Army. The base is in the north of the state of New York east of Watertown in Jefferson County and covers an area of 434 km ². Named after the base is Lieutenant General Hugh Aloysius Drum. The unit was established in 1908. Until 1974 it was named Pine Camp.

The base is not only home for much of the 10th U.S. Mountain Division, the only major association of these weapons the Army, but also training, mobilization and administrative center for the U.S. Army Reserve, which trained over 80,000 reservists annually there. At the same time the base also serves as a training and education center for units of the U.S. National Guard.

In 2008, almost 19,000 soldiers are permanently stationed at Fort Drum.

By the end of 2013, the following units are relocated to Fort Drum

  • Combat Support Brigade ( Maneuver Enhancement Brigade ) from Hawaii ( which will only be set up )
