Fort Rotterdam

Fort Rotterdam is a Dutch fort in Makassar, South Sulawesi. Originally, it was built by King Gowa IX. Karaeng Tumapa'risi ' Kallonna built of clay. In 1545 the king of Gowa X Karaeng Tunipalangga Ulaweng let her wall with bricks and binders increase of protein. In 1634, Sultan Alauddin had reinforce the fortress with stone walls even further, the original square fortress with its new five bastions got the shape of a sea turtle. The Dutch Admiral Cornelis Speelman captured it in 1667 and named it after his birthplace of Rotterdam to the Fort Rotterdam. Six years later, they began to reinforce the fortress further by built seven meters high and two meters thick. In addition, courtyard houses were created in the Dutch style and a church.
