Fortnum & Mason

Fortnum & Mason is a department store in London ( Piccadilly, 181 ), which was founded in 1707 by William Fortnum.

History

William Fortnum was a servant in the household of Queen Anne. He collected spent candle stub from the palace, which he then sold. When he had enough money, he founded a grocery store, and persuaded his friend Hugh Mason to join him. Two generations later succeeded grandson Charles Fortnum, to establish themselves in today's business fields.

In the Victorian era, Fortnum & Mason was always famous for its culinary delights. The English snack specialty " Scotch eggs" was first produced in 1738 from Fortnum & Mason. 1886 were sold in England at Fortnum & Mason, the first baked beans. In the period between the world wars Fortnum & Mason extended the offer range of clothing, perfume and kitchen items. 1931 a branch was opened on Madison Avenue in New York City, in 2004 there were two stores in Japan to do so.

Today, the product range of Fortnum & Mason has been designed for luxury items.
