Fortuné du Boisgobey

Fortuné you Boisgobey, actually Fortuné Hippolyte Auguste Castille, ( born September 11, 1821 in Granville, Manche Dept., . † February 26, 1891 in Paris) was a French writer.

Life

Boisgobey came from an old wealthy family and attended the Lycée Saint- Louis. Through his family a partisan of King Louis- Philippe I, he joined during the July Monarchy in the army. He acted, inter alia, as paymaster and fought 1844-1848 under General Thomas Bugeaud in Algeria against Abd el-Kader.

Beginning of 1848 Boisgobey returned back to France and settled in Paris. He left the army and was able to settle thanks to its family assets as a freelance writer. Due to the politically troubled times ( the 1848 February Revolution ), he was only able to achieve the artistic breakthrough in 1868 with his work " Les deux comédiens " 1868.

On the basis of this publication, the publisher Paul Dalloz took him from Le petit moniteur for seven years under contract. In this way Boisgobey was the editor and soon become one of the most well-known columnists of his time. At the latest with the publication of his novels "Une affaire mystérieuse " and " Le Foçat colonel" in 1869, he was the best-selling author of his time. 1877 commissioned him the daily Le Figaro with a series of short stories and it was merely by the support be increased significantly.

Was already longer Boisgobey member of the Société des gens de lettres and 1885 was chosen also for their president; End of 1886, he put this post down again. With 69 years Boisgobey died after a long illness on February 26, 1891 in Paris and found his final resting place.

Reception
