Fortune Gordien

Fortune Gordien ( born September 9, 1922 in Spokane, † April 10, 1990 in Fontana, California ) was an American track and field athlete, who was one of the world leaders in the discus throw around ten years after the Second World War. Since he regularly nerves failed despite his auspicious name at major competitions, he received the nickname " infortune ". The son of a magician and student of the University of Minnesota came in 1946, first appearance, when he won the NCAA championship. He participated in three Olympic Games, but it was enough for "only" one silver and one bronze. In 1960, he scored as a 37- year-old has a width of 57.21 m. Fortune Gordien was 1.84 m tall and weighed 105 kg.

  • Pan American Games 1955 in Mexico City: Gold in the discus with 53.10 meters before Parry O'Brien ( USA) ( Silver with 51.07 m) and Hernán Haddad ( Chile) ( bronze with 47.14 m)
  • Silver in the shot put with 15.98 meters behind Parry O'Brien ( gold with 17.59 meters ) and before Marty Engel ( bronze with 14.62 m) ( both USA)
