Giuseppe Tosi

Giuseppe Tosi ( born May 25, 1916 in Borgo Ticino, Novara; † 10 July 1981) was an Italian athlete. Tosi had a competition weight of 125 kg at a height of 1.93 m.

Giuseppe Tosi was an excellent discus thrower, who had the misfortune to always stand in the shadow of his compatriot Adolfo Consolini. In the 1948 Olympics he won with 51.78 silver. The winner Consolini he had a meter behind, to the third party, the American Fortune Gordien one meter lead. Four years later, at the Games in 1952 occupied Tosi with 49.03 8th place

In European Championships Tosi was three times consecutively win the silver medal. In 1946 he had with 50.39, although almost three meters behind Consolini but also two meters ahead of third-placed Finland Veikko Nyqvist with 48,14 m. Since 1939, Giuseppe Tosi was with the Carabinieri in Rome. For the Carabinieri who play an important role in the promotion of competitive sport in Italy, Tosi was the first winner of an Olympic medal.
