Fossa Corbulonis

The fossa Corbulonis was a Roman waterway that connected the Rhine at Matilo with the Meuse. The canal was built from the year 47 AD under the Roman commander Gnaeus Domitius Corbulo. The fossa was 23 Roman miles ( 34.5 km ) long. Their width varied 12 to 14 meters, the water depth was two meters. The fossa Corbulonis considered as hydraulic engineering feat of its time and is still in sections to understand the terrain.
