Fossa, County Kerry

Fossa (Irish: An Fosadh ) is an extensive village and Parish in the southwest of Ireland.

Fossa is located about 6 km north- west of Killarney in County Kerry on the edge of Killarney National Park, on the N22 from Killarney to Tralee (and thus on the well trodden path from Killarney to Dingle Peninsula) and on the offshore part of the Ring of Kerry the Iveragh Peninsula.

A portion of the fossa is Aghadoe ( Irish: Achadh Deo, older Achadh EO-; German "place of the two yew "), a townland, from which a wide view of a portion of the Killarney National Park with Innisfallen Iceland Lough to Leane has the largest of the three lakes in Killarney National Park, and on the spire of Ross Castle. Part of Aghadoe are also the ruins of Parkavonear Castle, an Anglo -Norman foundation dating from the 13th century, and is no longer accessible church at an early stage of decay.

Next fossa are several top-class golf courses; also home to the place in Aghadoe House, a former manor house dating from the 18th century on a large garden and forest land, one of the few Irish hostels. Furthermore, there are three hotels ( including the Aghadoe Heights is a 5 -star hotel ), various B & B accommodation and two pubs (as of 2008 ).

About 2 km east of the fossa is located on the road to Killarney with a 1958 -founded production plant for container cranes of Liebherr one of the earliest branches of a continental European company in Ireland; the number of employees is 560
