Fougeré, Maine-et-Loire

Fougeré is a commune with 753 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Maine -et -Loire in the Pays de la Loire.

Geography

Fougeré located in the north of the canton chief town Baugé, on the border of Sarthe in an agricultural and forestry embossed area. The center is encircled by two streams. The district rises to the south and has three distinctive elevations 70-90 m height. Nearest large town is eleven miles north-west area, La Flèche. In Fougeré six cross roads department.

History

From 1790 Fougeré was the capital of a canton, which was then in 1801 the canton of Baugé slammed for a short time.

Culture and sights

Fougeré has a medieval center. The Romanesque church of St. Etienne in the 11th century, centrally located in the old center, has one of the most typical of the area twisted spiers, as also in some other places of Baugeois ( Le Vieil- Baugé eg, Fontaine- Guérin ) can be found.
