Four-thousand footers

As Four -thousand footers (or " 4ks " ) is a group of mountains in New England referred to the height of 4,000 ft above project ( 1,219 m).

In most cases, with "four -thousand footers " the White Mountains Four - Thousand Footers List of the Appalachian Mountain Club meant. The AMC also has a list of New England 4000 - Footers, including peaks in Vermont and Maine ( not in Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Iceland or because the mountains are not high enough to meet the conditions ). Other lists of 4000 - footers, not the AMC include the original list of four- thousand -foot mountains four -thousand foot mountains for peak -bagging: the 46 Adirondack High Peaks. The 48 are located in the White Mountain National Forest and in two of the northernmost counties of New Hampshire, including Coos County and Grafton County. All peaks except those of Mount Washington, Mount Moosilaukes and Cannon Mountains are located on land owned by the Forest Service, and the three exceptions are surrounded by it.

Saddle height criteria

A saddle height criterion was introduced to exclude peaks that are considered neighboring peaks larger mountains. For the 4000 - footer list of the AMC, the minimum saddle height is 200 ft (61 m). Earlier versions of the list called for each 300 ft ( 91 m) Vertical separation and 400 m dominance.

Four - Thousand - Footer Club

A committee of the Appalachian Mountain Club serves as a center for collecting the criteria and information that demonstrate the summit during the visit; It also maintains a list of Four - Thousand - Footer Club members who have climbed all 48 peaks on foot between an allowed for vehicle road with return or onward migration to another point.
