Fourchambault

Fourchambault in a French town in the department of Nièvre in the Burgundy region. Fourchambault located on the banks of the Loire, about six kilometers northwest of Nevers. The inhabitants are called Fourchambaultais or Fourchamballais.

Fouchambault was the production site of the Italian scooter manufacturer Piaggio; 1957 to 1962 Vespa 400 30,000 small cars were built in the factory Fourchambault. Today, the city is struggling with economic difficulties, the population fell from 6240 in 1962 to 4678 currently (as of 1 January 2011), the unemployment rate is 16 %, and the median income for 13,606 euros a year ( 1999). Mayor of Fourchambault is Jean -René Leroy. In the French presidential elections in 2007, Ségolène Royal was the second ballot around 59 %, Nicolas Sarkozy about 41 % of the vote in Fourchambault.

From Fourchambault the author of " Irma la douce ", Alexandre Breffort ( b. 1901 ), and the industrial chemist Pierre -Émile Martin come ( 1824-1915 ).
